Fairway the grand old gourmet multi department specialty store of Long Island in Plainview is saying goodbye. They came in around the millennium and took out Sutton Place Gourmet with volume pricing and a more robust deli department. All kinds of tomatoes, melon, fresh OJ, all kinds of dry goods and well developed specialty departments. An offshoot of their highly successful NYC stores they brought their expertise here. Wow they were where we all went for deli, bagels, produce, amazing everything including organic, fresh pasta, seafood, roasted specialty coffee and the best olive oil selection I've ever seen. An entire aisle for a variety of crisps as my British friend calls them. All kinds of chips, tortilla, potato. Name it. Smoked fish, a whole cheese department with the best Brie you could find. Their own kosher fresh mozzarella which was ok but not Italian hahaha back to the awesome cheeses Like Pierre Robert etc. always loved that one I first sampled here. And of course all kinds of crackers, fig preserves etc etc. the best Babkas brought in from NYC and others from the local Jewish bakery that used to be in the same center. That was a nice way to be a big neighbor. The bakery didn't close because of Fairway. The bakery closed years later because the owner could no longer get help. But they worked well together for years. The associates in coffee were the happiest and most engaging and helpful anywhere. The cashiers got tired and sick of most of us. Hahah. Many there for nearly 20 years. Covid came and went. They hung in and brought produce to Nassau and made it seem like all was fine. It wasn't. They had some associates recover I was told and in another store not as good. They stayed strong and stayed open and somehow there was everything other stores were running out of. Not everything but most things needed. It's with great appreciation I write this last review of Fairway. As I left the store after getting Brooklyn pasta sauce for pennies on the dollar I knew it was the end of en era here. The photos just uploaded show the end. But when it was new and for nearly two decades the memories of the aisles of all kinds of fresh produce and more are what we will all remember. The sign as we left glared brightly Thank You over the exit. I can say on behalf of so many that know and loved this store Thank you Fairway,

It's been quite a while since I found myself shopping for specialty grocery items at Fairway Market. Since the opening of new local competitive specialty food stores I have swayed away for lure of somewhere new and the hype of the new specialty store But I came back to Fairway because of the fair pricing for general grocery items, specialty foods, meats & vegetables. And I also find it easier to navigate through this store than their competition.

Good market with quality generally a step above the Stop and Shop and Shoprites. I feel Fairway meat, especially the prime steaks are very good and with the sale prices, just great. The bakery has this Oreo brownie that no other fairway has for some reason. I should ask Fairway why that is the case since there is another Fiarway that is closer to me. The seafood counter is always well stocked with fresh fish. The deli counter can be a little wait but the service moves and they always have some samples available to try. There is always enough of the items that are on sale. I buy cases of seltzer which are conveniently available in the front of the store. The aisles here are wide and allow for greater freedom of movement compared to the Fairways closer to the city. Parking is ample and the location is convenient to the I495 for a quick getaway after. Overall a good place to shop for groceries.
